Here at Land Energy, we are committed to zero waste, minimising environmental impact at every stage of our processes.
Factory Processes
Our factory process contributes to our sustainability. Land Energy’s Heat Recovery System (HRU) recovers unused heat from the furnace and sends it to the water system where it is used in our drying process. This method recovers up to 5.5MWh of heat per hour, which is channeled into our wood drying process.
Within the drying process, the heat is further recycled by another HRU system, which re-uses its unused heat back through the drying cycle after a cleaning process.
As a result of the furnace heat recovery process, we produce approximately 170m3 of condensed water per day. This water is collected, cleaned, and re-used in our wood pellet process.
This is a very tidy loop ensuring that no heat goes to waste.
We clear brash
Brash is left on forest floors by the forestry industry. We have implemented measures to ensure that nothing is left behind on the forest floor hereby supporting the forestry industry. By picking up leftover brash and ‘lop & top’ we make sure every part of the tree is used and nothing goes to waste. We use brash to power our HRU and furnace, which keeps our energy usage as 100% renewable. Any excess power gets put back into the grid.
Waste produced at our factory
All of our timber is debarked before making into wood pellets and briquettes. Some of this bark is re-used in our furnace and HRU. Amazingly, it takes around 30 tonnes per day.
This year, we have made significant strides in our commitment to organic and sustainable soil revitalisation.
Land Energy has revolutionised soil health and crop growth by harnessing carbon and nutrients from specific organic wood fibres, blending them with living compost and natural nutrition. This creates a super natural soil where plants can thrive.
Our ground-breaking process revitalises soils, enabling the cultivation of crops, plants, and trees without the reliance on synthetic fertilisers.
After the production of pellets, any dust and fines are recycled and rejected briquettes are reprocessed during our stringent quality assurance checks.
We recycle all of our plastic
Any plastic used in our factory is sent away for recycling; we have also developed and offer a free recycling scheme for our customers to return their used packaging.
It gets sent to Solway Recycling, one of the most established plastic recyclers in the world. They have a wide variety of products, including garden benches, dog kennels, and farm products.
Our dedication to sustainability and Zero Waste is key to every aspect of our operations.
